Foreigners Entering TRNC

RE : The Law concerning “Declaration of Properties” & Customs and Excise Office for persons intending to reside in TRNC.

•  Personal Household, Furnitures, appliances etc.

Persons who are granted residence permit in TRNC are allowed to bring any reasonable amount of personal household, furniture, appliances etc. and will be exempt from any Customs and Excise Duty if it is satisfied that ;

•  these household, furnitures, appliances etc. are personal effects and should be in reasonable amount.

•  These furnitures, appliances etc. should be imported to T.R.N.C. either 6 monts before the entry of the applicant to T.R.N.C. or 6 months after the entry of the applicant to T.R.N.C.

If emergency arises, these furnitures, appliances etc. may be imported earlier if a (Customs officer) approves in writing to do so.

•  After the arrival of the goods, a full list of these furnitures, appliances etc. should be presented to Customs & Excise Office of TRNC together with the applicants' passport and a certificate from (local or Village Authorities). In Customs and Excise Office in Nicosia will issue an “ExemptionCertificate” regarding Customs & Excise Duty.

Motor vehicles :

•  Foreign residents, whether or not they have acquired the citizenship of TRNC are not liable to any concession of any import duty or dues but however import licences are being granted only to one of their used motor vehicles which is over 3 years of age irrespective to the regulation that restricts the importation of motor vehicles to TRNC which are over 3 years of age.

•  Fire Arms and Licences

This issue is dealt with by the Office of Chief of Police of TRNC.

•  Hunting Seasons

This issue is dealt with by the Ministry of Interior.

•  Antiques' Declarations and Licances

This issue is dealt with the Office of Antiquities & Museums.

•  What can be declared ?

Persons arriving at TRNC are expected to declare any items liable for Customs Duty with them to the Customs and Excise Officer. Thus, a Customs and Excise Officer may ask questions and check for the declaration of items regarding Customs and Excise.

•  What items can be taken abroad from TRNC ?

•  Items which have no trading value.

•  Items which are reasonable amount of trading samples.

•  Items of goods' advertisements.

•  Any currency not more than $10,000.- US Dollars in cash.

What can be brought to TRNC from abroad ?

•  Tobacco : (400 cigarettes or 500 grams of tobacco)

•  Alcoholic Drinks : (150 cc)

•  Wines : (150 cc)

•  Perfumes and toilet preparations (lotions, creams,etc) (100 cl)

•  Items not worth over $75 US Dollars.

•  Items for clothing, make-up etc. (this amount depends on person's status)

•  Any personal items.

•  Pets and relevant licence

This is dealt with by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Veterinary office.
